TiME Hack 2026
23/01 - 25/01 | Immersive hackathon

About the TiME Lab

A Platform for Immersive Innovation

Imagine developing a shared experience that surrounds participants with ultra-high-resolution visuals, spatial sound, and an environment that reacts instantly to movement, gesture, and voice. The TiME Lab at Fraunhofer HHI is built for exactly that. A research-grade facility where technology and creativity meet to explore the next generation of immersive media.

The TiME Lab Environment

14Kx4K Panoramic Projection

A seamless 180° curved display delivering 14Kx4K resolution. The projection system creates an enveloping visual field ideal for collective experiences, interactive simulations, and live media presentations.

Object-Based Spatial Audio

A 3D sound system capable of rendering up to 64 simultaneous audio objects. Each sound source can move dynamically in space, providing precise localization and realism that traditional surround setups can’t match.

Real-Time Tracking & Interaction Systems

The TiME Lab integrates a broad range of input and tracking technologies that enable real-time user interaction and control. These include:

  • Gamepads
  • Leap Motion sensors
  • Cameras
  • LiDAR sensors
  • Microphones
  • SpaceMouse controllers
  • Mudra Link gesture interface
  • Tablets and web-based control surfaces

Together, these tools allow developers to design responsive, multi-user experiences where motion and sound become integral parts of the immersive environment.

Why It Matters

The TiME Lab is not just a demo theater, it’s a research platform for developing and testing future immersive media technologies. By creating for it, you’ll contribute to the exploration of new interaction models, spatial audio design, and collaborative storytelling techniques that could redefine how we experience digital content.

The challenge is simple: use the TiME Lab to design an experience that brings people together inside a shared immersive world. Something only possible in this space.
